One purchase · every platform

One license, both platforms.

AuthorDeck is a local AI writing tool you own outright. Pay once — $89, no subscription, ever — and use it on both Mac and Windows, on up to three of your own computers. Below is exactly what you get, what your machine needs, and how fast it writes.

$89 once · Mac + Windows · local forever
Writing in Japanese or Korean? You need 16 GB RAM or more.

In v1, Japanese and Korean are supported only on machines with 16 GB RAM or more. The 8 GB engine does not write these two languages to a standard we are willing to sell — so we do not offer them there. Every other language works on every supported machine, 8 GB included.

We are actively working to bring Japanese and Korean to 8 GB machines in a future update.

AuthorDeck picks the right local engine for your computer — you never choose models or tune settings by hand. More memory (RAM) unlocks a deeper craft engine.

  • Mac: Apple silicon (M1 or newer). Intel Macs are not supported.
  • Windows: 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Exact CPU/GPU details are confirmed before launch.
  • 8 GB RAM: the entry engine — clean, complete drafts to study and remix. Japanese and Korean are not available on 8 GB in v1.
  • 16 GB RAM: the comfortable everyday baseline for smooth fiction work — and the minimum for Japanese and Korean.
  • 32 GB RAM and up: unlocks the Premium 31B engine — dense, showcase-grade craft with the deepest genre separation and richest tonal control AuthorDeck offers.

AuthorDeck fits the engine to your hardware automatically — the same app scales from an 8 GB laptop to a 32 GB+ workstation.

Because AuthorDeck writes on your own computer, the time to finish a complete short story depends on your chip and memory. A faster, lighter engine drafts in seconds; the deepest showcase engine takes longer but writes richer, denser prose. Here is what to expect.

Mac — Apple silicon

Your MacEngineTime per short story
8 GB Draft (Entry) about a minute provisional
16 GB Crafted (Standard) several minutes provisional
32 GB+ Showcase (31B Premium) about 15 minutes measured

Windows — with a dedicated GPU

Your PCEngineTime per short story
RTX 5090 Premium 31B about 13.5 seconds measured
Mid-range GPU (RTX 4070–4080) Premium 31B published before launch benchmarking
8 GB, no GPU Draft (Entry) a few minutes provisional

Times are averages for a complete short story, not guarantees — your exact time varies with your hardware, engine, and story length. The Mac Showcase figure is the full multi-pass pipeline on Apple silicon. The RTX 5090 figure is the Premium 31B engine writing a ~700-word story, measured across a real batch of 144 stories (143 of 144 clean and complete). A discrete GPU makes Windows exceptionally fast; the remaining provisional and mid-range figures are being benchmarked on real hardware and published here in full before release. 8 GB is the entry floor — without a GPU, AuthorDeck runs the lighter Draft engine and finishes a story in a few minutes (about four on our 8 GB test laptop); it runs best with other apps closed, and more memory or a discrete GPU is faster.
